Like always, since there's so much more than just the rules of basketball (like court size, fouls, violations, and regulations) I'll start off with an intro. This is so that you don't feel overwhelmed and you have a strong foundation to learn on. So we'll get started.
Every sport has rules and some are similar to others. For example, the violation "offside" is common in soccer, hockey, and football (that's American football or else I would be repeating myself). And without them there wouldn't be any sports. But what's the importance of you learning them?
Well, the rules are usually enforced by referee, so what happens when you and your peers are playing without one. Well, if none of you knew how to play then the game would be one huge disaster (which wouldn't be that fun). Therefore, you must learn them to play the game.
Even if you think you know them pretty well you might be wrong. For instance, what would happen if an aggrument blew up because no one can a agree on a certain foul? Who's right and who's wrong? Only the person who knew the rules really well would be right.
Not just that, if you play on a team you might want to know all the fouls and violations that the referee might call so you can avoid them. And not to mention, when watching games on TV it's better to keep up with all the calls.
So in the table of contents, there is the content needed to learn everthing about the rules and even about the court. Just remember the benefits of having knowledge of the rules of basketball.
